Finding UK Jobs

1. Get Visa

If you are looking to come to the UK in order to work the first thing that you need to sort out is obtaining a working visa in order to be allowed entry into Britain. The Home Office which is in charge of immigration and border control recommend that you apply with at least a minimum of 3 months before the date you set to depart, however for certain visas you can apply up to 2 years before you want to set off and have it post dated.

2. Get CV ready

Don’t leave it until you arrive to get you CV and references in order, there will be enough for you to deal with being away from home with out the added pressure of updating your resume which is vital for any success of finding a job! Be sure to include educational history as some companies will require, giving them a clearer image of your background. Look for spelling mistakes and be certain that all the dates and details match up; this is a common factor in candidates not being accepted for positions that they have applied for.

3. Book flights

Try and book flights as early as possible in order to get the best fares, booking directly through the airlines own website in most cases offer the cheapest tickets. Do aim to have your arrival date linked to the start of your visa to make use of as much time as you have been granted in the country. Baggage restrictions apply for most airlines so keep in mind how much you are able to pack and be prepared about leaving all those teddy bears, suits and favourite foods behind. 6. Arrive in UK

After you have landed in the UK you will find most airports have good public transport links, the underground system in London is connected to Heathrow Airport and can be a reliable and cheap method for getting to your destination. Taxis, Minicabs and coach and bus routes also operate in each of the terminals and car hire desks can be found that offer multiple drop off points, which means that you can hire the car from the airport but you may be able to drop it off in another location. Be sure to explore your surroundings and enjoy the numerous museums, galleries and parks that are not only free but will help you relax yourself.

7. Interview training

It is important that you find time to rest as this will mean you will have the energy to impress and impress in interviews, no one does well if their tired and cranky. Interview training or workshops are a great way to prepare as they can identify your strengths and weaknesses as well as give you a taste of what you can expect. Different agencies and companies offer these services but make sure you have a clear idea of what they are actually offering and the services they provide. To get best value always use reputable organisations, some may charge but if you join the agency others offer the training as part of their package.

8. Looking for Jobs

One of the most common questions asked is; how long will it take to find a job once I’m in the UK? Sorry to say but there is no easy answer! Depending on you experience, the job market and the competition this varies for everyone. Some are lucky and land jobs within a week others may have to wait several weeks before they are offered a job. Looking for jobs through UK job agencies is sometimes the easiest option as they have job vacancy from many different companies and organisations. Most businesses have a recruitment department and you can try them directly by finding out information on their website. Landing that perfect job is often a combination of luck and timing so keep looking and don’t give up!
