WELCOME TO THE UK
Enjoy your stay and if we have not answered all your questions, please let us know.
Coming to the UK is a big decision, this site has been created to make it a little easier. Whether you're coming to travel or to gain some valuable overseas experience this site will point you in the right direction. Usually the first step, when you arrive, is to get your CV optimised for the UK , then to apply for jobs. It's a good idea to book some temporary accommodation or make arrangements with friends, only after you start work should you look for something more permanent. Many people like to get in touch with a UK company before arriving. They will be able to advise you on your skills and suitability for employment and hopefully this will speed up your job search.
Moving to the UK from New Zealand is something many Kiwi's do each year. The overseas experience not only looks positive on your CV, but the skills you learn will stay with you for ever. Almost every major multi-national company in the world will have offices in the UK or London in particular. For professionals seeking employment the UK is an opportunity not to be missed. Finding a job can be tough for some, but in particular those from New Zealand have fewer language or cultural difficulties when arriving. It's also a lot easier to obtain a valid visa that entitles you to live and work legally in the UK - for this reason many people capitalise on the opportunity to gain valuable overseas experience.
What next?
If you don't have a British Passport and haven't already done so, apply for a visa to the UK , without one you won't be able to get a job. It's virtually impossible to secure a job whilst still in New Zealand , but you can start looking for suitable companies in your job sector that can help you look for a job once you get here. You'll probably want to update your CV for the UK , find a place to stay and get your finances in order (Taxes, National Insurance Numbers, bank account etc.) |
